Why should I consider a drainage solution?
Here are a few things to consider...
If you can asnwer 'Yes' to any or all of these questions, it suggests you could benefit from a drainage solution....
Do you see standing water well after watering or a hard rain?
Do some areas of your landscape seem to be dying for no particular reason?
Can you see patches in lwan where your grass seems quite thin, perhaps unhealthy... even though you water it regularly, it gets plenty of sun,. and there's no evident disease?
Do some areas of your lawn seem to need constant treatment for fungus?
Is water leaking through your basement wall or garage?
Does your sump pump seem to be running more than you think it should?
A drainage system solution will likely go a long way to resolving any of these you asnwered 'Yes' to.

What are the benefits of a drainage system?
Adding a drainage system gives you many advantages & benefits, including controlling erosion, removing surface water that may damage or destroy your lawn and attract mosquitos. A drainage system will also provide more and better aeration to the roots of your grass, and increase the supply of available plant food. An improved drainage system will also decrease the risk of freeze damage, since frost heaving can raise, crack, or buckle your sidewalks and hardscapes.

Will I need permits for the drainage work?
You won't require permits for drainage system work.
That said, to be effective as we work on your drainage system solution, we will need to know where things (gas lines, electrical, phone, cable lines, etc.) might be buried on your property, so we'll ask Miss Utility of Virginia to locate/mark all underground utilities. You'll be responsible for showing us (or telling us about) anything else that may be buried in your yard which won't marked by Miss Utility.

Will installing a drainage system create a mess of my lawn & gardens?
To create the proper slope for your drainage system piping (so gravity can carry the storm water away), we will need to disrupt and/or displace things in your yard. Our crews are trained minimize this as much as possible – and to clean up the affected areas, once your drainage system project is completed. And in those few instances, if, after 6-8 weeks of proper watering your lawn doesn't recover as expected, we'll re-seed the damaged areas.

What type of piping do you use for drainage solutions?
We use two types of pipe – Corrugated steel pipe, and sewer & drain pipe, a smooth-walled, polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Which pipe is better to use?
It will depend on the specifics of your property and your drainage system requirements as to whether sewer and drain pipe (PVC), or corrugated drain pipe will be appropriate... and our representative will describe the relative benefits and costs of each to you.
You'll want your drainage system to be open, functional, and as free from obstructions as much as possible
Due to its smooth walls and the rigid nature of PVC, the sewer and drain pipe is often the better choice. Since water flows easier over the smooth PVC surface, it's less prone to root intrusion and clogging due to debris from roof run-off. And should it ever become clogged, it's easy to clear.
Corrugated drain piping is more flexible and a better choice for difficult drainage system areas. If it's ever damaged or becomes clogged, corrugated drain pipe is easier and cheaper to repair, or cut open to remove the debris. On steep inclines the ridges (or corrugation) in the piping slows the storm water flow, easing stress on the piping and connections during periods of heavy rain.

Do you guarantee that your drainage solution will work?
Based on the information you provide, along with what we can see as problem areas, our technicians will assess your specific situation and develop a drainage solution to best-resolve your issues.
We offer low cost solutions to most common drainage problems. Those solutions are intended to move your waste water from point 'A' to point 'B' under normal situations.
This doesn't mean that a chronically wet basement will be dry after our work is done, nor that our drainage solution to the water that used to remain puddled in your back yard after significant rainfall will handle 5 days of rain from a tropical storm.
