Enjoy Outdoor Living Again - Without the Mosquitoes
With the return of mild weather, Northern Virginians enjoy increased time for outdoor living and entertaining. One detractor to that outdoor time is the influx of mosquitoes that are both pests and purveyors of potentially harmful diseases to humans and pets. Read our tips on reducing the mosquito population around your home.
Man-made and natural water sources (ponds, creeks, lakes, etc.) are breeding grounds for mosquitoes you cannot control. Even without nearby water sources, a heavy downpour provides the small pools of water that the eggs (laid by the adult female mosquitoes hiding on your property) need to hatch. If you find that your family and guests are under attack by mosquitoes while outdoors and that you can rarely use your yard for recreation and entertainment due to these pests, Bio Green can help you enjoy the outdoors again.
The Bio Green "Veto Mosquitoes" Solution
Based on our years of experience improving the outdoor living spaces of customers throughout the Northern Virginia region, we’ve developed a long lasting, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) based mosquito control program to reduce the mosquito population around your backyard entertainment areas and throughout your property.
Bio Green’s Mosquito Control Programs take a long term approach to reducing and controlling the mosquito population around your home – 4 targeted treatments throughout the season, following a carefully designed plan customized to your property’s features. During our no-obligation, free mosquito control evaluation, our experienced mosquito control professional will walk your property with you to gain a full understanding of problem areas and also evaluate the property for “mosquito haunts” – areas of dense and/or low-lying shrubbery (where mosquitoes rest) and shady areas (mosquitoes prefer shade over sunny spots). We’ll also make recommendations for reducing tick populations.
Our 'Veto Mosquitoes' Treatment Plan includes:
- Immediate mosquito reduction & control
- Long-term mosquito prevention
- Optional tick reduction & control
- Season-long mosquito (and optional tick) control
- 4 mosquito treatment/inspection visits each season (additional visits, if required)
- Special event mosquito treatments available
We Control the Mosquitoes - We Won’t Kill Everything
At Bio Green, we’re careful not to promote our mosquito program as a “mosquito eradication” solution, because it is an unrealistic and dangerous goal. Our Virginia-licensed Certified Pest Control Applicators evaluated existing mosquito program offerings in the market, and concluded that the repeated nature of some of the programs (every 14 days to 3 weeks) has high potential for killing beneficial insects, such as honeybees and yes, even spiders, which naturally help reduce insect infestations.
Virtually all mosquito control providers use misting sprayers that spread pesticide (most commonly permethrin) in the areas where mosquitoes (and other insects) live. Tiny mosquitoes are especially susceptible to applications of the misting spray, but other larger and beneficial insects (such as bees) can be killed if they fly through the mist during active spraying. With 4 highly targeted treatments, Bio Green’s Mosquito Control Program significantly reduces the mosquito population in your yard, and causes less harm to beneficial insects than other programs that spray 8 to 9 times over the season.
- Enjoy the benefits today of a major reduction in the mosquito population around your home so you can get back outdoors.
- Reduce the chances of West Nile virus exposure for your family and guests and Heartworm infestation for your pets.
- Feel confident that Bio Green has designed our program in the most environmentally sensitive way possible to mitigate mosquito problems without spraying so often as to threaten your property’s entire population of beneficial insects, such as honeybees, bumble bees, insect-eating spiders, beetles and more.
While our regular schedule of treatments are key to controlling adult mosquitoes at the source – if your picnics, parties, and outdoor activities could use some additional support – we can augment your defenses through our 'Special Event' mosquito treatment program.
Tick Control Programs
Tick borne illnesses such as Lyme disease are of concern to both humans and pets. The Center for Disease Control’s National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases statistics indicate that over a 10-year period, the incidence of Lyme disease has increased nearly 400%. Per a recent report from Virginia ’s Lyme Disease Task Force, “Virginia is in a particularly vulnerable geographical location, being at the crossroads of the frontline of expansion of Lyme disease carrying ticks from the North and other tick populations that have entered Virginia from the South, the public health risks of which are uncertain.”
As with mosquito prevention techniques, there are important steps you can take to protect you family and help reduce the potential for tick infestation on your property. Read our tick prevention tips.
There are many areas in Northern Virginia where, despite your best efforts, you cannot prevent tick carrying wildlife from entering your property. Bio Green offers effective Tick Control Programs that are targeted to the areas that ticks (and their animal hosts) inhabit, and we strictly adhere to IPM best practices in the design and application of all of our tick control programs.
